Eye tracking: What is eye tracking? Why is it so important? Where can it find its use?
Eye tracking (tracking the eye movement) is a user testing method, which uses the eyetracker. Direction of sight, areas of focus as well as of low interest of tested person are monitored by this device.
The method yields hard quantitative data, upon which a report is created. The report contains evaluation of effectiveness of tested design and proposals for improvement.
Eye tracking is an invaluable tool for
- marketing and advertising. Printed materials (posters, leaflets, billboards, catalogues etc.) or internet ads (banner or forms placement etc.) can be analyzed.
- web design. Eye tracking is useful in process of designing layout or optimizing web pages. Its rich quantitative outputs cannot be replaced by any other means of user testing.
